Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan S.W.P.P.P
All States require a SWPPP as one step in the process of getting a new commercial project approved for construction in accordance with the Clean Water Act enacted in 1972. The purpose of a SWPPP is to ensure that any runoff that is collected or created by your project is not directly dispersed into any of California's waterways in an effort to protect them from any potentially hazardous substances. A SWPPP is a comprehensive study followed by a detailed plan that will illustrate exactly where any water will enter your project, where and how any water will exit your project and how much water will be turned into runoff as a result of the construction of your project.

For example, your property currently consists of all natural ground and when it rains, a certain amount of water will percolate into the ground and a certain amount of water will retreat to any surrounding natural or man-made drainage courses. Your project requires the construction of a parking lot. Now, instead of the water following it's normal process of percolation and natural drainage, your project's requirements have all but eliminated the percolation process and almost doubled the amount of required surface drainage. This extra surface drainage is also potentially exposed to hazardous substances such as motor oil and other toxins.

A SWPPP will ensure that the construction of your project will not adversely effect our environment, cause any potential flood hazards and will help satisfy your city or county's conditions of approval.
